This dynamic 3-hour professional development session is designed for early childhood educators interested in weaving environmental education into STEM teaching with a focus on student-led learning, sustainability, and community science. Hosted in the inspiring setting of the Evergreen Arboretum, this workshop—“Rooted in Wonder”—offers a playful and practical approach to nurturing curiosity and critical thinking in the early childhood classroom. Participants will explore how environmental education offers unique, multimodal learning opportunities distinct from other areas of STEM. Through hands-on activities like nature journaling, crafting with a purpose, and children’s role as community scientists, educators will gain tools and strategies to support inquiry-based learning that’s rooted in the natural world.
Training will be held at Evergreen Arboretum 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett, WA 98201 9:30-12:30. Bring your own snacks, water bottles, and chairs/blankets to sit on.
